Drawn to Gulfport Art Show

On March 21st, 2019, the Gulfport Galleria of Fine Art hosted the students and faculty of Gulfport High School for the #drawntogulfport Student Art Exhibit. Bethany Mason was named the overall winner for her painting “Diversity”.

Jayden Magee, Joz’lynn Perrine, Elaina Dunning, Elena Eaton, Jourdan Elward, and Yanisi Culp were also honored. The contest was judged by Cecily Cummings, a professor of art at MGCCC’s Jefferson Davis campus in Gulfport. A total of $700 of prize money was awarded, made possible by funding provided by local business The Guided Endeavor and the support of the Mississippi Arts Commission.

Gulfport High School students participated in all aspects of the event. A string quintet from the GHS Orchestra provided music for the evening. Four teams from the Culinary Arts department offered up tasty food-and-drink combos. Students aided in the setup for the event and acted as ushers and greeters.

“I’m excited by the quality of the artwork submitted, and amazed by the professionalism of all the students involved,” said Bobbye Carraway, organizer of the event for the GGFA. “It’s been a great pleasure to work with them.”

The #drawntogulfport Student Art Exhibit was sponsored by the Port of Gulfport, Gulfport Main Street Association, and the City of Gulfport. The GGFA is proud to have hosted this event and looks forward to doing it again next year.
