Sonya is a native of Biloxi, MS and has always had an interest in preserving local and family heritage.  In May 2009, she set up a community Facebook page for locals to share family recipes.  Seven years later the Old Biloxi Recipes page has 35,000 “likes,” among the most of all the Biloxi related pages on Facebook.  Some visitors to the page belong to families with deep roots on the Gulf Coast and others recall enjoying the food while living here or vacationing here.  As the popularity of the page grew, fans on the page repeatedly requested that the recipes be bound into a hard-copy book, which led her to publication.  As interest grew, volume 2 and volume 3 emerged.  On many of the recipes, you’ll find a personal note from the contributor giving family information or a personal memory related to the recipe.  Many of the recipes are an important part of the cultural and social history of the MS Gulf Coast, some being handed down from generation to generation.
