The Art of Wearable Art

Sometimes an artist seems to capture something almost mystical in their works.  That’s the feeling I get when I look at the creations of Jasmine Snodgrass.  It’s more than the motifs on the pendants and earrings.  It’s her ability to conceive designs and images and sculpt them in precious metal clay to create art.

So, what is precious metal clay (PMC), and how is it formed into jewelry?  It’s a modeling clay comprised of microscopic particles of pure silver or gold combined with a water soluble, non-toxic, organic binder that burns off during firing.  After a piece is created and fired it’s polished and finished with wires if earrings, or other embellishments.  And the wires are often created from the same PMC.

Jasmine flattens, shapes, rolls into thin wires, coils and carves PMC to create her whimsical, mystical and thoroughly enchanting works of art that delight the lucky recipient of any of her pieces.  Each piece is truly a work of art, from start to finish.

If you want to get an idea of what it takes but without the expense, then pick up some playdoh and try to create something with the level of detail that Jasmine brings to her art.  Just remember to let yourself play and enjoy the process and let your creativity flow, you may find you have a hidden gift.  Or you can visit the Galleria and treat yourself, or that special someone, to a truly unique piece of wearable art.
