Your local writers guild meets at the Gulfport Arts Center every third Wednesday of the month, from 5:30-7:30 pm. This month’s guest is Kristin Brandt, Arts Industry Director, Mississippi Arts Commission. Kristin will talk about the types and timing of grants coming up in 2023. The MAC manages at least five different grant programs, with some funds coming from the state and other underwriting provided by the National Endowment for the Arts. She’ll discuss the benefits and eligibility for writers and the commitments, restrictions, and requirements of each type of grant. Following her presentation and a short break, the Second Hour group discussion topic this month: “Is your book more than the words you put into it?”
Our own J. Michael Dumoulin has had two of his illustrations accepted in the 48th Annual Bi-state (AL & MS) Art Competition at the Meridian, MS, Museum of Art. Both of these multi-media illustrations are the same ones offered for sale on our Galleria web store.
I do know this: the work that I did wasn’t simple idle work. It had purpose for the Center, for me, and for the community.
Local artist member Becca Sargent was recently featured on WXXV-25 where she spoke about the summertime mini-art camps she is providing here at the Gulfport Arts Center.
